Your Dog’s First Visit

 

What should I expect at my dog’s first visit?

Your first visit is about more than simply giving your dog a haircut.

We’ll take time to understand your dog’s grooming history, coat, behaviour and your expectations. We’ll assess their coat and discuss what can realistically and safely be achieved during the appointment.

For some dogs, particularly nervous or inexperienced dogs, the first appointment may be about building trust rather than achieving the perfect finish.

 

Will my dog be groomed straight away?

Usually, yes, if your dog is comfortable and the grooming plan is appropriate.

However, every dog is different. A puppy or nervous dog may need a slower introduction to the salon, equipment and grooming process.  Our priority is a positive grooming experience, not rushing a dog through a predetermined checklist.

 

What if my dog’s coat is matted when I arrive?

We’ll assess the coat and explain your options.

If the matting can be safely removed without causing unnecessary discomfort, we’ll discuss an appropriate approach. If the coat is severely matted, clipping it short may be the safest and kindest option.

Your dog’s welfare comes before maintaining a particular hairstyle.

 

Will you call me if you find a problem?

If we discover something during grooming that requires your attention, we’ll let you know.

Groomers regularly see things that aren’t always obvious beneath a coat, including skin irritation, lumps, parasites, ear problems and areas of discomfort. Grooming isn’t a substitute for veterinary care, but it can provide an important opportunity to notice changes.
