Our History

A passion for grooming, education, and breed preservation.

Spitz Groom began as a passion project to help educate owners of Spitz breeds on the correct and ethical way to care for their dogs’ coats. At the time, I was a registered breeder and member of the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC), actively involved in public education forums to promote purebred dogs and the importance of obedience and responsible pet ownership.

In 2016, I entered a co-share arrangement with a grooming salon in Caulfield, working on the days it was closed. Originally, the plan was to focus solely on Spitz breeds—such as the Japanese Spitz, German Spitz, Keeshond, and Samoyed—but word quickly spread, and our services expanded to cater for all double-coated breeds.

Over the next few years, we gained an incredibly loyal following among owners, breeders, and veterinary professionals alike. When clients began travelling from as far as New South Wales just for a groom, I knew we had created something truly special.

In 2019, following a house move, the business relocated to Fitzroy North. While I would have loved to continue offering services from our Caulfield base, a recent Narcolepsy diagnosis meant I could no longer safely make the cross-town commute. I explored options including factories and retail shopfronts, but ultimately made the decision to co-share with another groomer for the next year while I considered the best long-term plan for Spitz Groom.

In late 2020, we took the leap and opened our first dedicated grooming salon in Carlton North—a space built around our core values of ethical grooming, holistic care, and breed-specific expertise.

In late 2023, due to consistent demand, we expanded our services to welcome all breeds, including single-coated dogs such as Poodles and Poodle-crosses, while staying true to our roots in double-coated care.
