How much does dog grooming cost at Spitz Groom?

Spitz Groom charges for grooming based on the time required to groom your dog, rather than using a simple breed-based price list.

Our current grooming rate is $115 per hour Monday to Friday, and $138 per hour on Saturdays including GST. With prior arrangement and subject to availability, Public Holiday appointments can also be booked at a grooming rate of $155 per hour.

The time required depends on factors including your dog’s breed, coat condition, coat length, size, behaviour, grooming history and the style requested.

Please note: On occasions we may be able to facilitate appointments outside normal business hours. These appointments will attract an additional surcharge depending on the services included in the booking. Please speak to the team for more information.

Are individual grooming services available, and how much do they cost?

Not every dog needs a full groom at every visit. Spitz Groom offers a range of individual and maintenance services, depending on your dog’s needs.

Services may include nail clipping, hygiene trims, paw and pad trims, puppy introductions, coat maintenance and desensitisation sessions. Pricing for these services depends on the service required and the time involved.

For puppies and dogs who are nervous about grooming, a Puppy Program or desensitisation session may be recommended to gradually introduce them to grooming, handling and salon equipment. These sessions are designed around building confidence rather than completing a full groom.

If you’re unsure what your dog needs, contact us and we’ll recommend the most appropriate service.

Why doesn’t Spitz Groom have a simple price list for every breed?

Because two dogs of the same breed can require completely different amounts of grooming.

A well-maintained Poodle with a short, manageable coat may require considerably less time than another Poodle of the same size with a long, dense or matted coat.

Charging according to the time required allows us to price grooming more fairly and transparently.

Will I know how much my dog’s groom will cost before the appointment?

We’ll discuss the expected grooming time and provide an estimate based on the information available to us.

For new clients, the final time can sometimes vary once we see and assess the coat in person. If something significantly changes the expected grooming time or approach, we’ll discuss it with you.

Why can a matted dog cost more to groom?

Matting can dramatically increase the time, care and skill required to groom a dog safely.

Severe matting may require careful clipping, additional handling, specialist equipment and extra time. In some cases, removing the coat safely is the only humane option.

We never charge more simply because a dog has been matted as a punishment. The additional time reflects the work required to safely and comfortably resolve the problem.
