What is Diatomaceous Earth?
Diatomaceous Earth (or DE) is made from crushed fossils of freshwater organisms and marine life, that has been ground down so finely it actually looks like powder. When this rock is in this powdery form, although it’s safe for humans and pets, it’s deadly to insects including fleas and ticks.
Diatomaceous Earth is killing external parasites and insects on the body, and also on bedding etc - Sprinkle powder on to body
DE can also be very useful as a detox solution, digestive aid and colon cleanser to be used internally - Add into food daily for minimum of 30 days
DE is full of minerals - magnesium, silicon, calcium, sodium, iron, potassium, copper, zinc, & phosphorous
selenium
What is diatomaceous earth used for?
If you’re wondering how to use diatomaceous earth, the possibilities are endless. Diatomaceous earth benefits include gastrointestinal detoxification for pathogenic bacteria, parasites and heavy metals, cleansing and removing stubborn dirt and grime from the skin in the form of facial cleansers, scrubs and masks, in natural toothpaste to remove bacteria and plaque in the oral cavity, as well as being used in the home as a natural cleaner, and even as a nutritional supplement for bones, joints and ligaments due to its silica and mineral content.
How does Diatomaceous Earth work for Fleas? On the Body
DE powder will stick to the insects body and because it is so fine and sharp (almost glass like at a microscopic level), it actually cuts and pierces the insects (Eggs included) protective structures causing them to dehydrate and die
Sprinkle over coat starting from the base of tail, pulling hair back to get to skin
DE is great for external parasites, and it can also be used to treat internal parasites such as roundworms, whipworms, hookworms and tapeworms are all effected by DE.
When using it for internal use: - Detox, Cleanser, Internal parasites
- It must be mixed well into wet food to avoid the inhalation of the powder (Dangerous in lungs).
- We recommend using the amount daily for a month to ensure killing all hatchlings and worms that can move in and out of the stomach in their cycle.
- DE is not as effective towards tapeworms and does not effect heartworm as that worm lives in the heart, not in the stomach, so alternative use for heartworm will need to be sought.
DE is full of minerals such as magnesium, silicon, calcium, sodium, iron and other trace minerals.
It's a slower process to fully eliminate fleas or toxins from within the gut. Continued use for 1 month.
Directions: Internally in dogs, give these amounts:
- Small dogs and puppies: 1/2 tsp per day in food
- Up to 50 lbs: 1 tsp per day in food
- Over 50 lbs: 1 Tbsp per day in food
- 100 lbs or more: 2 Tbsp per day in food
It’s best to mix it with raw or other moist food. If you feed dry food, add some water or broth to moisten the powder.
For external pest prevention, rub the powder into your dog’s coat. Start near the tail and pull back the hair to get it on the skin.
Avoid the eyes, nose and mouth as it can irritate mucous membranes.
Sprinkle dust over body hair/fur avoiding eyes, nose and mouth.
Mix well into wet food, allow to sit before consumption
